How It Works

The Cantina Marg Mug Club is a membership for those who appreciate the intersection of high-quality local ceramics + (generously-discounted) margaritas!

Here's how it works:

  1. You buy a mug (handmade by Cantina's own Chris Svetlik), as well as a Mug Club subscription
  2. Your mug lives on a shelf at the Cantina
  3. Whenever you come in, you drink from your mug
  4. Whenever you drink from your mug, you get $5 off margs (note: applies to agave & spicy margs only)

The Financials

  • To become a member: you make a one-time purchase of a mug ($30) as well as a 6-month membership ($150) in the Mug Club
    • Why the up-front charge for the mug? First off, it's yours to keep (even if you leave the Club). Second: the mugs are made by hand and we're aiming to ensure fair comp for this labor-intensive work!
  • Your membership will auto-renew every 6 months (with an additional $150 charge). We'll send a renewal email 7 days before you're charged, which provides the option to cancel before renewal
    • Note: if you cancel, we'll coordinate with you to come pick up your mug (which is yours to keep!). Your MMC discount will expire at the end of your final 6-month membership term

  • Breaking down the math for you: at $150 per 6 months (or $25/month), you break even if you consume 5 discounted margs per month. We truly believe you have it in you to achieve this (and we'll reiterate: there is no limit on the # of discounted margs you can drink 😉)
    • Also: your membership in this VIP club represents a great way to support local small biz + artisanship!

Rules, Policies & Particulars

  • How the discount works: when you're sipping from your mug, enjoy $5 off agave and spicy margs — anytime during dinner or weekend brunch (but not valid during weekday cafe hours). Note there are no limitations on the discount in a given sitting; drink as many discounted margs as you'd like!
    • Cantina's standard Happy Hour (4-6p daily, 9-10:30p Fri/Sat) offers slightly better pricing than the Mug Club discount. During Happy Hour, we'll honor the HH price rather than the MMC price (i.e the '$5 off' MMC discount is not "layered on top" of Cantina's HH price)
    • Frozen margs, our rotating marg, and other specialty margs are not eligible for the MMC discount (just agave & spicy margs on the rocks!)
  • Verification: when you're onboarded into the MMC, you'll choose a mug which will have a unique mug number. Please remember this number! To redeem your MMC discount when you dine in..
    • First off, politely let your server/bartender you're a MMC member
    • Then, provide your name and mug #, both of which are required to verify your membership and redeem your discount
    • Note: during onboarding we'll provide a physical membership card with your mug # — we recommend either carrying this with you and/or snapping a pic!
  • Refunds: generally speaking, we do not offer refunds. Your mug is not refundable, and the 6-month term of your subscription cannot be refunded or prorated once it starts
    • You can, however, opt to cancel your subscription at the conclusion of the 6-month term)
  • Code of Conduct — the Mug Club has only 2 rules:
    • Don't game the system (this would includes for example.. habitually sharing discounted margs from your mug to non-members at your table, "gifting" your subscription, and any other abuse that should be obvious to the reasonable MMC member!)
    • Be a kind & courteous guest
    • ..we reserve the right to cancel the subscription of anyone egregiously in violation of the MMC Code of Conduct

Can I take my mug home?

By default we'll display your mug on a shelf at Cantina (with your name below), but if you want to take your mug home and bring it back — feel free! Just flag for your server or bartender

Note you'll need to bring your mug back in order to qualify for your MMC discount ($5 off margs)
Can I cancel my subscription?

Absolutely! Subscriptions are set for a 6-month term and will auto-renew at the end of that term. You'll receive an email notification a week before your renewal with a link to cancel your subscription if you choose.

You can also cancel your subscription at any time through the 'Manage Membership' link in the header.

Note we cannot offer partial/prorated refunds for a cancellation before the end of your subscription term.
Can I get a refund on my mug?

Unfortunately the one-time purchase of the mug is non-refundable. However it's yours to keep even if you choose not to renew your Mug Club subscription.
What happens if I cancel my subsription?

We'll coordinate with you to come pick up your mug — which is yours to keep! Feel free to sip any beverage from your mug at home, however you'll no longer be entitled to $5 off margs at the Cantina 🥲
Can I purchase multiple subscriptions?

If you're looking to purchase a pair of subscriptions for you and a fellow mug afficionado, you'll need to purchase each subscription separately (and use a separate email address for each) in order for onboarding to process properly

When is the $5 discount available?

The MMC discount is available anytime during dinner (7 days a week) and brunch (Sat & Sun daytime) — but NOT available during Mon-Fri daytime/cafe service.

Note there are no limits on the quantity of margs discounted at the MMC rate!

During Happy Hour (4-6p daily + 9-10:30p Fri/Sat), your $5 discount cannot be "layered on top" of our HH discount (which is currently $6 off margs). During Happy Hour we'll redeem the standard HH price even if you're sipping from your mug 🤑
Where are the mugs made?

Right here in DC, in the basement of Eastern Market!

Cantina owner Chris Svetlik is an avid potter and (apprentice-level) glaze mixer, and makes each mug by hand. He's pleased to bring his craft into the Cantina space for fellow ceramics lovers!
Can I buy a mug or hat without a subscription?

Not at this time.
I just purchased a membership! What are the next steps for onboarding?

Within ~5min of purchasing your membership, you should have received a 'Welcome Email' that provides all the details for how to get up & running

We'll schedule you for a brief 'onboarding' at Cantina where you'll select your mug and we'll pass off your MMC swag 🧢

Generally this will take place on a Tuesday from 4-8p, but if you can't make the day/time we scheduled you for, please let us know
